What is Beastbots?
Beastbots (FRC Team 4861) is our sister team, officially created in 2024 and intended to give our new members a low-stakes environment to gain hands-on robot skills. New members work primarily on Beastbots in their first year to build critical robotics skills in a low-stress, low-stakes environment. As the season progresses, Beastbots members become increasingly involved in the main team's upgrades and programming as well. All Beastbots members are also on Eastbots.
What does Beastbots do?
Every season, Beastbots members chose a premade design released at the start of the season from among several options. They then modify their chosen design, with team members using CAD to upgrade the bot's drivetrain, refine mechanisms, and even add new elements to the robot. At competition, Beastbots competes alongside Eastbots as a separate team with the number 4861. Beastbots will not go to the FNC District Championship or the FRC World Championship even if they qualify; all Beastbots members show up to those events under the Eastbots banner.
How did Beastbots start?
Towards the end of the 2022-23 season, we realized that, due to our team's large size, new members were often getting overlooked. To fix this, we resolved to create a training team to give every new member a space to learn and grow. Beastbots made its competition debut as team 9975 at Rumble in the Roads that year's offseason. The following year, Beastbots officially registered as team 4861. Beastbots kicked off its inaugural season by building a KitBot and competing at the Orange County and UNC Asheville district events, making it into the playoffs of both. Going into its third season as an official team, Beastbots continues to compete at a high level an engage new members while helping us spread STEM to more of our community.
